This series wasn’t what I was expecting. I knew there would be a robot, but the books totally blew me away and I’m so glad I took the time out to finally read them. I should have written this review months ago, but the last book Winter is quite lengthy and other things and books got in the way, but I finally finished reading it some weeks ago.

I wish I could write separate reviews, but it’s not quite possible at this point. I’m going to try my best, but I’m reviewing the story in general which the books told us. As always my reviews are mostly always spoiler free (97% of the time) and just mainly incite my readers to either give the book a chance, definitely read it, be cautious or stay away from the book.

In Cinder, we get introduced to the Cyborg that is Cinder. I didn’t know what to expect going into the book, I just knew that in this retelling of the fairytale Cinderella, Cinderella is a robot. I didn’t even expect things to escalate as they had, so it was a nice surprise, which had me devouring the book in one go and speeding into the next one. This book had a lot to offer but was mainly the build up of the story for the rest of the books. In this book, we get to find out more about Cinder and how she came to be, her origins and how it changes the dynamics of the world she lives in and we have Prince Charming as Prince Kai, who if I may add, was my least favourite character in the whole series.

Scarlet, this book is one hell of a page turner. Scarlet is Red Hiding Hood, her Grandma is missing and yes there is a big bad sexy Wolf involved. Now the pace of this book is different from the first one because now trouble is brewing and Cinder is trying to be as inconspicuous as possible while gathering more information about her origin and being elusive of Queen Levana of Luna. I was really waiting for when Scarlet and Cinder would meet because they both have a link. By the way, we get introduced to the wonderful and charismatic Captain Thorne, love the relationship he and Cinder built, he’s definitely her best friend, aside from Iko. I’m so glad I didn’t have to go through the suspense of waiting for the next book, cause if that had happened, I would have been crushed.

Cress, this book is action packaged. They are literally going all over the world in this book. Cress is Rapunzel, we got to meet her briefly in Cinder and I was waiting for them to communicate with each other again. So I was glad we got to learn more about her. Cause Cress is badass! This book was lovely, very insightful and the war had really begun. In this book, they had to train and recruit help, find the cure for the sickness that was plaguing humans and try to sabotage Queen Levana’s plan. I love this book. I mean it was gloomy, cause a lot of separation occurred in this book and it was the start of the acquiring of life altering battle scars. I love how much Iko is included in this book and the next book, I know I’ve not spoken about Iko yet, but I will.

The final book Winter, this book oh my God. The pain, the twists and the battle. This book was everything. It was a good finish to the world Marissa had created. Winter is Snow White, Queen Levana is the Evil Queen and Jacin, was such a jerk, but I knew he was only doing what he did to save himself and Winter ultimately. Queen Levana is pure evil, she is so vain, wow for someone who was meant to have the control she wasn’t even that smart. This book had my heart ripping in certain parts because the characters go through so much in it and all secrets are revealed ultimately, I mean with each book huge discoveries are revealed. This book occurred on Luna and the ultimate coup occurs and like I said, the battle scars are quite life altering.

Iko is a robot, the best ever, I love her character and I would love to read a story about Iko purely. This story was breath taking, it was wonderful and so beautiful. I love how strong all the female characters are, how determined and dedicated they are. The love stories were a bonus to the mix. This story really explores the boundaries of loyalty and trust between friends and I’m so glad I got to read it.

Why haven’t you picked up the books? The story is worth it for real.

p.s. I need to read Fairest.
